SOP
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
COURSE
SOP, as the name implies, is doing something
the same way, every time you do it. For a professional flight department, it means that every time you fly with a
different pilot, there is virtually no difference in the way you fly. No difference because everyone follows the
same or "standard procedure". Of course the benefits go far beyond being familiar with your fellow pilot. The
benefits include: proficiency by routine (getting good at a procedure by doing it over and over), ability to
quickly recognize discrepancies, ability to multi task more easily when conditions require. Procedures are usually
written for every phase of flight. These procedures include among other things: callouts, checklist, hand
positions, briefings, monitoring, and flight procedures. This training set include examples of SOPs for different
phases of flight. These are procedures that might be employed by a single pilot operator.
